Yasmina Gourchane is an advocate for international criminal justice based in New York. At the time she wrote for Mondial she was Membership and Outreach Associate at the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC), a global civil society network that works to support a fair, effective, and independent International Criminal Court and to broaden state cooperation with it. She later advanced within the Coalition to Advocacy Officer for New York, engaging with governments, the United Nations, and the ICC, and supporting the Coalition’s member organizations around the world. Her work centers on building political and civil society support for accountability for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and on defending the Court against political pressure, themes reflected in her Mondial articles on attacks against the ICC and the challenges facing the institution. Before joining the Coalition, Gourchane worked with the International Law and Human Rights Programme at Parliamentarians for Global Action, where she supported initiatives engaging legislators on ICC ratification, judicial nominations, and human rights. She entered the field through an internship connected to the ICC’s presence at the United Nations in New York before joining the Coalition, where she spent several years. Gourchane holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University in New York, where she studied international and global studies and French. Her writing for Mondial contributed an on-the-ground civil society perspective on the political environment surrounding the International Criminal Court during a period of heightened pressure on the institution.
