Evan Freund is a longtime world federalist advocate and nonprofit leader based in the Chicago area. He has been associated with the movement since the 1990s, serving over more than two decades as President and later Treasurer of the Chicago chapter of Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS) and, before that, of the Chicago Region of its predecessor, the World Federalist Association. He has sat on the national CGS board since 2014 and serves as Education Fund Treasurer. His advocacy centers on world federalism, democratic representation, the rule of law, and strengthening international enforcement institutions such as the International Criminal Court, themes reflected in his Mondial writing on democracy, representation, and federation and in his review of Dani Rodrik’s “Straight Talk on Trade.”
Freund spent his career as a healthcare delivery executive until 2001, developing and delivering services for inner-city Chicago populations. He served as the first Executive Director of the Michael Reese Health Plan, helped build prepaid medical services at the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Health Center, and later led MetroCare, an HMO subsidiary of Mount Sinai Medical Center serving an Illinois state program. After retiring, he worked as a volunteer project manager, consultant, and executive coach with the Executive Service Corps of Chicago, assisting nonprofits with planning, recruitment, and fundraising. He is also co-chair of the Interfaith Criminal Justice Task Force, which advocates for criminal justice reform in Illinois. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, an MA in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, and a BA from Cornell University.
