Nancy Dunlavy is the Director of The Workable World Trust, a Minnesota-based organization founded in December 2014 by the geographer and global governance scholar Joseph E. Schwartzberg to disseminate and promote ideas for a more workable, democratic, and law-based system of global governance. Dunlavy worked alongside Schwartzberg for several years, first as Administrative Assistant and then, from December 2017, as Director, continuing the Trust’s mission after his death in 2018. The Trust seeks to advance a world in which democratically established binding law replaces the law of force, people are recognized as the ultimate source of sovereignty, and global problems are met with sustainable global solutions. Under Dunlavy’s direction it has supported conferences and reform advocacy by allied groups, including the World Federalist Movement, the Berlin-based Democracy Without Borders, and the Center for United Nations Constitutional Research, and has funded youth participation in international programs such as the Ventotene Seminar in Italy and a Model UN program in Mexico City. Dunlavy also served as President of Citizens for Global Solutions Minnesota from July 2017 through December 2020. During her tenure she strengthened ties between the Minnesota chapter and the national organization, promoted Schwartzberg’s book Transforming the United Nations System: Designs for a Workable World through book club programming, oversaw a website redesign, improved the chapter’s financial and nonprofit compliance practices, and launched a films discussion series. She is active in the Minnesota peace and justice community.
