Keith McNeill is a Canadian writer and a long-standing member of World Federalist Movement – Canada, which he joined in 1989. Now retired, he was formerly the editor of the North Thompson Times, the community newspaper in Clearwater, British Columbia. His career in community journalism informs his writing for the world federalist movement, where he contributes book reviews and commentary that connect everyday concerns to the case for stronger, more democratic global institutions. Writing for Mondial, the journal of Citizens for Global Solutions and World Federalist Movement – Canada, he reviewed Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet by Johan Rockstrom and Owen Gaffney, examining the book through the lens of global governance and climate action. In that review he highlights the authors’ call for more democratic decision-making at the global level, including the idea of a world parliament, and suggests it falls to world federalists to draw the explicit links between the planetary-boundaries science the book presents and the structures of world federation. The same review has also been published by Democracy Without Borders. His work reflects the world federalist conviction that global problems such as environmental breakdown require coordinated global solutions and accountable international institutions.
