Alyn Ware is a New Zealand peace educator and campaigner whose work spans international law, non-violence, and environmental advocacy. His professional focus has centered on promoting global peace through legal and political mechanisms, particularly in the areas of nuclear abolition and conflict prevention. Ware has served as the Global Coordinator for Parliamentarians for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament since the organization’s founding in 2002. His expertise includes advocating for a global treaty to prohibit and eliminate nuclear weapons, a key focus of his work with the Abolition 2000 Global Network to Eliminate Nuclear Weapons. Furthermore, he has been involved in international legal efforts, including working with the World Federalist Movement on the proposed International Criminal Court and serving as Vice-President of the International Peace Bureau.
Ware’s commitment to peace education and human rights is extensive. He co-founded Our Planet in Every Classroom, a peace and environmental education program, and was a member of the government advisory body that developed the Peace Studies Guidelines for the New Zealand school curriculum. His advocacy extends to the rights of women and children, and he has been active in anti-racism and indigenous rights movements. In the environmental sphere, he is a member of the World Future Council.
His contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Right Livelihood Award (Sweden) and the United Nations International Year for Peace Award (New Zealand). Ware has also held various director and coordinator roles, including Executive Director of the Lawyers Committee on Nuclear Policy (USA) and Founding Director of the Mobile Peace Van.
