Bob Flax, Ph.D. (Robert Flax) is a psychologist, organization development consultant, educator, and world federalist advocate. He served as Executive Director of Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS) and its Education Fund, then transitioned to CGS President before retiring at the end of July 2023, when Rebecca A. Shoot succeeded him as Executive Director and Bruce Knotts became President.
Flax holds a B.A. in psychology and philosophy from New York University (1977), an M.A. in psychology from Long Island University (1980), a Ph.D. in psychology from the Saybrook Institute (1992), and an M.A. in organization development from Sonoma State University (2007). He later earned a Certificate in Global Affairs from New York University (2015) and a Diploma in Global Leadership from the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica (2020).
He began his career as a psychotherapist in the late 1970s and spent sixteen years with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, serving as the first full-time psychologist assigned to death row at San Quentin State Prison and managing inmate rehabilitation programs. He is an Adjunct Full Professor in the Transformative Social Change program at Saybrook University, where he helped develop the curriculum and co-directed the Office of Research.
Within the world federalist movement, Flax has served on the boards of three organizations: the Democratic World Federalists (San Francisco), where he is a past president; Citizens for Global Solutions (Washington, D.C.); and the World Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy (New York City). His expertise spans global governance, world federation, conflict resolution, organizational development, and restorative justice.
