Brandon Nakasato is an educational administrator at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he serves as Head’s Assistant in the Department of Computer Science. In that role he supports the department’s leadership office, and he has been recognized by the faculty for faculty recruiting support and for fostering a collegial environment (2024).
Outside the university, Nakasato is active in the world federalist movement. He is currently working to revive the Vancouver Branch of World Federalist Movement – Canada (WFM–C), helping to rebuild a local chapter of the organization devoted to strengthening democratic global governance and the principles of federalism at the international level.
Before relocating to British Columbia, Nakasato was based in Alaska, where he chaired the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights, the state body responsible for enforcing Alaska’s anti-discrimination laws. He served on the commission from 2016 and as its chairperson until 2019. He is also the founder of Our Commonwealth, a nonprofit focused on community engagement.
His writing reflects a long-standing interest in human rights, shared human identity, and the idea of humanity as a collective project. In Mondial, the journal of Citizens for Global Solutions and World Federalist Movement – Canada, he contributed the poem “Humanity Is an Idea” (2024), which frames the recognition of others’ humanity as an act of nation-building toward a more unified world community.
