Daniel Perell

Daniel Perell is a Representative with the Baha’i International Community’s United Nations Office, a role he has held since 2011 (initially as an Alternate Representative). His work focuses on global governance, United Nations reform, climate change and the environment, sustainable development, disaster risk reduction, and the role of religion and values in international affairs. He has served as a co-chair of the Steering Group of the Coalition for the UN We Need, a civil society effort that mobilized input toward the 2024 Summit of the Future, and he has been an active voice in processes connected to Our Common Agenda and the broader push to strengthen multilateral institutions. Perell holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law (2010) and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Before joining the Baha’i International Community’s UN Office, he worked with the International Service for Human Rights in Geneva and with the United Nations in Aceh, Indonesia, where his work touched on the reintegration of ex-combatants and medium-term governmental planning. He has also worked with organizations in the Marshall Islands and Chile. Across these roles he has represented civil society perspectives in United Nations forums, contributing statements and convening dialogue on how global governance can be made more inclusive, accountable, and capable of addressing shared planetary challenges. His Mondial contribution, the coauthored 2023 essay UN Reform: Three Paths Forward, reflects this longstanding engagement with the question of how the international system can be reformed and renewed.
