Eric Rosenzweig is a young American advocate for world federalism whose work centers on European integration and the case for stronger, more democratic global and continental institutions. In 2019 he was selected as one of five scholars sponsored by the World Federalist Movement to attend the Ventotene International Seminar, the annual conference on European and world federalism held on the Italian island of Ventotene and organized by the Istituto di Studi Federalisti Altiero Spinelli together with the Young European Federalists (JEF). The seminar takes its significance from Ventotene as the place where Altiero Spinelli, in political exile during the Second World War, drafted the manifesto “Per un’Europa libera e unita,” a foundational text of European unification. The WFM scholarship he received was awarded through a competitive process that included a cover letter and CV, an interview with a selection panel, and a written review of Joseph E. Schwartzberg’s “Transforming the United Nations System: Designs for a Workable World.”
Writing for Mondial, the journal of Citizens for Global Solutions and World Federalist Movement, Canada, Rosenzweig reported on the European federalist movement from a global-federalist perspective. His articles examined the Union of European Federalists and its “European Refoundation” manifesto for the 2019 European Parliament elections, covering proposals on banking and fiscal union, economic stabilization, security, migration, and climate finance, and offered a first-person account of the 2019 Ventotene seminar. His contributions emphasize pluralism, cross-border cooperation, and connecting young federalists internationally in support of more cooperative and accountable governance.
