Fernando Iglesias

Fernando Adolfo Iglesias is an Argentine author, scholar, and advocate who specializes in the political dimensions of globalization and the case for democratic global governance. He served as Co-President of the World Federalist Movement, Institute for Global Policy (WFM/IGP), a role to which the movement’s congress elected him alongside Tadashi Inuzuka of Japan, and he had previously chaired the WFM/IGP Council. Within the federalist movement he has directed the campaign for a Latin American and Caribbean Criminal Court Against Transnational Organized Crime (COPLA) and co-chaired the parliamentary advisory group of the campaign for a United Nations Parliamentary Assembly. He is a founding member of Democracia Global (Movimiento por la Union Latinoamericana y el Parlamento Mundial) and has directed the Altiero Spinelli Chair on regional integration. Iglesias has taught the theory of globalization and regional blocs at Argentine universities and has written widely on world federalism, global democracy, and the limits of the nation-state system. His books include Globalizar la Democracia: Por un Parlamento Mundial (2006), Republica de la Tierra (2000), and La modernidad global (2011). He authored the Manifesto for a Global Democracy, a statement supporting transnational democratic institutions that drew signatures from a range of internationally recognized intellectuals. His writing argues that the political unification of humanity through new regional, international, and global federal institutions is essential to addressing twenty-first century challenges such as climate change and transnational crime.
