Oded Gilad is an Israeli writer, educator, and activist for global democracy, and the founding director of One World: Movement for Global Democracy, an organization based in Tel Aviv that promotes a democratic world federation as a way to address shared challenges such as climate change, pandemics, poverty, and unaccountable corporate power. A committed world federalist and Esperantist, Gilad served on the Council of the World Federalist Movement from 2014 to 2020. His core argument is that the absence of democracy and the rule of law at the global level is a fundamental underlying driver of conflict, and that a small, democratically legitimate layer of federal governance at the planetary scale would better protect people everywhere. He has applied this lens to the Israel-Palestine conflict, contending that a world federation able to defend all human beings would have reduced the appeal of competing nationalisms and offered a fairer framework for coexistence. With co-author Dena Freeman he wrote the book Global Democracy: The Key to Global Justice (Democracy Without Borders, 2022), which sets out the case for organizing the world as a democratic political federation and profiles historic advocates of world federalism.
