Dr Tawanda Hondora is an international lawyer who joined the World Federalist Movement, Institute for Global Policy (WFM-IGP) as Executive Director in March 2019. Dual qualified as a Solicitor of the Law Society of England and Wales and as a registered attorney, conveyancer, and notary public of the Law Society of Zimbabwe, he has more than twenty years of experience spanning private legal practice, human rights advocacy, and the philanthropic sector. He began his career in commercial law in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he provided pro bono assistance to journalists, trade unionists, and students who faced prolonged pre-trial detention, work connected to his involvement with Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. He was earlier a partner at the Zimbabwean law firm Kantor and Immerman. At Amnesty International he served as Head of Strategic Litigation and Deputy Director for Law and Policy, leading litigation that challenged unlawful government surveillance and intervening as a third party and amicus curiae in public international law cases across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia. His professional expertise covers international justice, human rights law, mass atrocity prevention, the rule of law, global governance, climate change, business and human rights, and digital privacy. He holds a doctorate (PhD) in law and finance from the University of Warwick. He has also served as a Senior Advisor for Civil Society to the Global Pro Bono Bar Association.
