Alexandre MacIsaac (who also publishes as Alex MacIsaac) is the Executive Director of World Federalist Movement – Canada (WFM-C), the organization that publishes Mondial. He also serves as Secretary of the World Federalist Foundation Board of Directors. His work centers on building a more democratic world community and on reforming global institutions, with a particular focus on the campaign for a directly elected UN Parliamentary Assembly (UNPA) as a route to greater democratic legitimacy and binding authority within the United Nations system.
MacIsaac has been committed to global federalist ideas since his student years, when he participated in and founded several political groups and student clubs across his college, undergraduate, and graduate studies, including the Debating League of Mississauga and the Global Federalist Association. He pairs his advocacy for world federalism with a non-partisan approach to politics and a stated respect for national and local sovereignty.
He brings practical electoral experience to this work, having spent several years at Elections Canada dealing directly with candidates and political parties. In that capacity and in his current role, he is most engaged by projects aimed at establishing and reforming democratic systems at the global level.
His writing for Mondial reflects these themes. He has examined the shared institutional critiques of world federalism and national populism, argued that an idealist World Federalist approach to UN reform is in fact the pragmatic one, and (with David Gallup) explored the concept of world citizenship as a longstanding human aspiration now grounded in shared identity and global democratic participation.
