Marijke Kremin is a policy and advocacy professional whose career spans international peace and security, human rights, and global health governance. At the time she contributed to Mondial (2018 to 2019), she worked with the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP), the civil society network then housed within the World Federalist Movement, Institute for Global Policy. In that role she covered the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) norm, mass atrocity prevention, and the protection of civilians in conflict, contributing the journal’s recurring R2P and ICRtoP updates and an explainer on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. Her work focused in particular on the intersection of gender, conflict prevention, and atrocity prevention. In January 2020 she co-authored an analysis for the International Peace Institute’s Global Observatory titled “Bridging the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda With the Responsibility to Protect in Conflict Prevention.” Earlier in her career she worked in legal aid and advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers in Cape Town, South Africa. She subsequently moved into global health policy, serving as Policy and Advocacy Manager at the NCD Alliance, based in New York City, where she covers financing policy and United Nations advocacy on noncommunicable diseases. Kremin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in human rights from Columbia University, where she studied at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights. Her areas of expertise include the Responsibility to Protect, the Women, Peace and Security agenda, civilian protection, UN advocacy, and global health financing.
